UK government petitoned for more brain tumour research funding

BTRC founder Wendy Fulcher is among more than 112,000 people affected by brain tumours, who are demanding action from the Government to fund research to help find a cure. Wendy, a founding member of national charity Brain Tumour Research, is backing a petition calling for increased investment into scientific research to bring parity of funding with other cancers such as breast and leukaemia.

Wendy says “If this petition gets the attention of the Government and secures future funding into brain tumour research then that would be amazing. It’s what I and so many others within the brain tumour community have been working towards for so long. I sincerely hope we can bring forward the day a cure is found and bring hope to all the families affected by this cruel disease.”

The Petition Report, Level Up and Stop the Devastation, highlights the fact that brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Historically, just 1% of the national cancer spend has been allocated to this devastating disease.

The petition asks the government to

  • Introduce a new brain tumour research levelling up fund of £105 million
  • Increase the national investment into brain tumour research to £35 million a year
  • Demonstrate joined up thinking for investment across the brain tumour research pipeline
