Jon Bird is organising this fundraiser on behalf of Brain Tumour Research Campaign, and ran the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 27th February 2022.
A few words from Jon
If you have ever wondered how long it takes someone to forget a painful and emotionally uncomfortable event in their life, I can tell you it’s just under 3 years. That is the time that has elapsed since I last ventured down to the torture zone you might better know as the Brighton Seafront , and experienced the Brighton Half Marathon . I will tell some people that I enjoyed it, but I didn’t, and although my toenail grew back, and the leg pain and chafing subsided, it came as quite a surprise to me when I found myself submitting another entry form.
Disappointingly, and unlike my pre-Christmas training, my application was successful.
I am overweight, unfit, and and recovering from 11 days of positive lateral flow tests at the start of the year, so I am in desperate need of “financial inspiration” to get me out in the cold January mornings for the odd training run….which is where you come in.
I am running this for the Brain Tumour Research Campaign . As their name would suggest, they carry out research into brain tumours, which was the cause of my late fathers death over 20 years ago, and the thought of them preventing maybe just one son, daughter, mother, father, grandmother or grandfather suffering the same fate, might just be enough to keep me going for the full 13.1094 miles. That along with lots of sponsorship money riding on it.
Since the last time I ran, the world has changed, but the BTRC hasn’t stopped doing their work, and they need as much money as you can afford, so please be kind and help me raise above and beyond my target.
Many thanks,
Bird
